Our students come from very low economic backgrounds with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in our area. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Chuukese, Marshallese, Filipino, Mandarin, and Spanish. As diverse as our students are culturally, they are diverse in their academics.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
Many of my students receive food bags every other week, which is donated by a local church in our neighborhood. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
Our school serves students in grades K-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college, and we emphasize the importance of attending college through AVID.
My Project
Having a printer in our classroom will save a lot of time and leave more room for learning. Right now, the students need to email me their completed work, then I need to download it and go down to our copy room to print it out during lunch or after school. Most times, the copier is being used and it would be so much easier for the students to send their work straight to a classroom printer. We also have projects that they need to print in color, but our school does not provide that option. If I need something in color, I have to go to the local print shop and have them do the job, which is costing me a lot of money out of pocket. I think this will be a great addition to our class.
