My Students

I enjoy going to work every morning and meeting my students in the classroom with their diverse abilities and different personalities. With virtual learning, it is extremely important to stay connected with my students and meet them where they are educationally. With close proximity to New York City, I find it challenging to help them meet their educational goals. Competing with cell phones, video games, and the challenges of inner-city life, it is rewarding to see the looks on their faces when we focus on their learning style and they can demonstrate mastery of the subject matter.

This validates my decision in changing careers and becoming a special education social studies teacher.

My Project

The best way to engage a student is finding their strengths and learning styles. Most of my students are learning disabled and need help developing their skills. This is a key factor in their education and preparing them for life after school. As an educator I find it helpful to learn from the experiences of other colleagues outside my district. Sharing ideas and gaining knowledge from others provides an excellent opportunity to look “outside’ the box and gain a broader perspective on what is working in other districts through out the country.
