I teach a group of 21 diverse third graders. My students have grown up in a low-income and high-poverty neighborhood. I serve students from the inner city who often come from broken homes and lack many basic resources at home.
My goal each day is to love and care for each one of my students and show them the respect and value that they need and deserve.
Building positive relationships in the classroom is key to their success. With everything I do, I strive to help build a sense of community and respect in my class. If students feel respected and loved in a safe environment, they are more likely to not only become better learners, but better individuals as a whole.
My Project
Every child deserves the best education possible. Through reading these new books, my students will be able to learn valuable and life-long lessons, as well as become better and more confident readers. I chose books that will help build our classroom community and increase awareness and appreciation of many different and beautiful cultures. With Black History Month almost here, I know that these books will be used and loved right away.
I can't wait to see my students' faces light up when they see all these new and exciting books!
As a first year teacher, I have not been able to provide as many book choices to my students as I would like, so this donation will make a huge impact not only for my current students, but also for all of my future students to come.
