My students need supplementary reading materials for our nonfiction unit. Scholastic magazines help students read on grade level, learn about current events happening around the world, and enable them to use critical thinking skills.

My Students

My students all come from diverse, urban backgrounds. They are amazing kids who love to learn in comfortable, positive, learning environments. Most of my students come from backgrounds that are extremely stressful and I would love to give my kids a comfortable learning environment where they feel relaxed, a place where they can read and write with comfort and a learning community that increases their enthusiasm. For some of them, school is all they have as a positive influence in their lives.

My Project

Scholastic Scope Magazine will encourage my students to broaden their reading by taking a look at nonfiction stories and current events. They will be able to also use critical thinking skills to enhance their learning experiences. Students can stay up to date on different events happening around the world while encouraging students to use learned reading and writing strategies. Since each student will receive their own copies, students will be able to annotate the texts and dive deeper into the readings. They will be excited and engaged knowing these materials are personal to them! Thank you for all your support!
