My Students
Next fall I'll be happy to be teaching in the community where I have been living for the past 7 years, Philadelphia, MO. This is a small rural school where there is only one class per grade level. Living in a small mid-west community these students have been together in the same class since kindergarten or pre-school which has allowed them to form sibling-like relationships. This in return creates a classroom environment that is more like a family. Third grade is a big transition year for students, they are now not learning how to read but rather reading to learn. I'm excited to teach them this through these wonderful books.
My Project
These read-aloud books will directly impact my students' learning by enabling us to have class discussions aligned to Missouri State Learning Standards such as asking and answering questions, lesson or moral, vocabulary, story structure, point of view, history, writing, research, character analysis, dictionary skills, compare and contrast and more.
My goal for my students is for them to be able to make connections in the text to these standards then in return be able to identify them within their own independent reading.
I believe the art of a good read aloud has become lost in our busy world and sometimes we need to slow down and enjoy a good book!
