Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enthusiastic learners and strive to do their best. Many of them face challenges inside and outside of the classroom, but they never give up. My vision is to have a classroom that provides critical thinking opportunities and provides differentiation for each student so that they are all able to thrive as learners.
I am currently teaching 23 wonderful second grade students in a Title 1 (low socioeconomic status) school.
Our school uses the Daily 5 with Guided Reading to meet each student's needs.
Nothing is better than seeing the pride on my students' faces as they see their growth as they work to become the best second graders they can be.
My Project
Hearing my students giggle, laugh, and participate when I teach using puppets is an amazing sight to behold. My students absolutely love when our current borrowed puppet comes out to help me teach. Each puppet has its own playful personality and they love when they get to come up during the lesson and speak using the puppet. Using these puppets helps my student become even more actively engaged in our reading and math lessons and helps increase their achievement in learning! We need the Puppet Tree to keep our puppets neatly organized to aid in a happy environment.
My students need these multicultural puppets such as the, Let's Talk: African American Boy Puppet and Let's Talk: Hispanic Girl Puppet, to help them to learn reading, writing, math, and social skills.
Studies have shown that having students learn content with hands on puppets that have different personalities can increase their achievement in learning.
My students often have big emotions when they come to school. We can use the puppets to talk to them and to help them express their emotions in a positive, non confrontational way. During reading, my students will often select a puppet to read to and to ask and answer comprehension questions.
