Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with students that are in the R.I.S.E program. The RISE (Reaching Independence through Structured Education) program is designed with a focus on the intensive programming and supports that are needed for students exhibiting deficits in the areas of communication and emotional regulation, often stemming from their challenges as a student on the autism spectrum.

I absolutely love working with each and every single one of my students.

Each child I work with loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We try to incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!

My Project

The items I chose will help provide the motivation my students need to learn. It has been a very tough year with the pandemic and being out of school for so long, that it has became quite difficult to engage some of my students. Many of the items that we are currently using are things that we have laminated, cut and attached Velcro to. These items are not always engaging but we have to do what we can with the limited resources we have.

These items will help us bring more excitement to the classroom and help our kids be more engaged and excited about learning.

The products that I have selected work on various skills. We are working on their fine-motor skills, self-help skills, cause and effect play, letter recognition, number recognition and just overall independence to name a few.

I have seen how through play children are able to learn best, and these items will only help enrich their their learning.
