My class is made up of 11 children who are 3 years old and have a variety of abilities. The community in which the students live in is a low income city and as a result many parents work multiple jobs. Therefore half of my class spends close to ten hours a day in school.
The school, that the children attend, follows the New Jersey Department of Education approved Creative Curriculum model along with the New Jersey Preschool Standards which encourages learning activities that stimulate critical thinking and self discoveries.
The students in my classroom enjoy being at school and look forward to new and exciting experiences. When they discover something new, they light up and they are eager to share their discoveries with others.
My Project
This sensory exploration table will provide a variety of learning activities for my students through out the school year. Not only will it provide different sensory experiences, but the students will also be developing fine motor skills, math skills, and language skills.
The development of fine motor is extremely important and this sensory table will give the children the opportunity to shovel, pour, and build which will help develop strength for drawing, cutting, and writing.
As the students explore the sensory table they will acquire appropriate math skills such as conservation, measuring, and counting. While playing alongside their peers, the children's language skills will develop and their vocabulary will become enhanced. The children will also be learning turn taking and problem solving skills, which will help them in all areas of development.
