The students in the classroom range from ages 3 to 5 years. There are a mix of developmental abilities, as this is an inclusive classroom. An inclusive classroom means that their are typically developing students as well as students with special needs. The students are all in one classroom together, growing and learning from one another.
While some of the special needs students may be functioning in the 9 to 12 months range developmentally, we also have students who are functioning age appropriately.
There is a great opportunity for students to see age appropriate behaviors and learn from peer role models. We love watching our students learn and share with one another.
My Project
These materials will allow my students on lower developmental levels to play appropriately during play time. These are also great cause and effect toys that I can use to enhance social skills and language as I engage the children in playing with them.
The toys, such as a discovery box and tumble ball dome, will allow for appropriate social interactions with their peers and adults in our room.
Students can play with one another in toys that spark their interest and meet them at their developmental level, when they are not yet ready for typical pre-kindergarten school toys.
I hope these toys allow my children to play alongside their peers and encourage some peer interaction.
