My students are a diverse and eager group of students with a range of needs who are eager to come to school. Although my students have many differences they have one major thing in common, a desire to learn. My students come to therapy excited and eager to engage and learn through play and story reading.
My students learn through activities that target vocabulary, turn-taking, social language, speech production, and more.
My favorite part of teaching is seeing the progress my students make throughout the year.
Many of my students are nonverbal or have limited verbal skills. More than 50% of the students in my district are considered economically disadvantaged/low-income. All of my students receive free breakfast, snack, and lunch at school.
My Project
These materials will provide an avenue for my students to learn and develop skills through cause-effect activities, art, pretend play, symbolic play, and turn-taking.
My preschool students will be able to comfortably play, read books, and learn in a small group on the Community Play Carpet requested in my project.
They can use the Mini Hardwood Vehicles during pretend play to practice identifying colors and learn concepts such as “stop” and “go”. Right now my students primarily complete activities at the table because it can be uncomfortable sitting on the tile floor which becomes very cold in the winter. Students who are still learning cause-effect can use the Ball Drop and Roll Tower requested in my project to learn about cause-effect. They will also learn concepts such as "in", "out", and colors using this toy. They will use the paper plates and wax paper to make crafts related to stories that we read.
