Help me give my students art and sensory materials such as play dough, paint, and kinetic sensory sand to promote their creativity and love of learning through hands on activities and art.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Pre-kindergarten is an exciting time where children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. They acquire many new skills, as well as build upon prior knowledge. I teach an amazing group of Pre-K students. They are energetic, curious, kind, and eager to learn. We are an urban Title One School, and all of our students receive free school lunch and breakfast. Also, in order to qualify for our program they must meet certain income guidelines. Even though we are faced with challenges, my students come to school every day ready and excited to learn. By supporting our class you are helping to create students who will develop a lifelong love of learning.
My Project
Children have a natural desire to learn and explore the world around them. At this age they are sensory motivated before they are academically motivated. Art and sensory play supports creativity, language development, cognitive growth, motor skills, and problem solving skills.
There are many opportunities for the children to learn through the art and sensory materials in this project.
Through play dough and kinetic sand play they can develop skills in all subject areas such as; learning and making shapes, letters, numbers, compare sizes, experiment with trial and error, and develop fine motor skills. Painting can help young children to learn colors, sizes, shapes, and patterns. It can also help them develop decision-making skills and social skills. This project will enable them to use finger paints, watercolors, tempera paint, and dot paint. They will also have the opportunity to use an assortment of art materials such as; foam shapes, pom poms, beads, buttons, etc. The materials in this project will give the children opportunities to develop vital skills while having fun. They will be so excited to explore, create, and play with these items in their centers.
