Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have diverse special needs. They are classified as "cognitive moderate/self-contained." They are a happy group of students and are eager to learn. They love learning through hands-on materials and technology. They seem to be reached better though visual/hands-on technology and materials. We are a Title I school district and serve a low income population of students.
My students do not learn by traditional methods.
We utilize a lot of hands-on materials and manipulatives to foster learning. My students enjoy playing games and using things that give them maximum sensory input.
My Project
If my project is fully funded, my students will have the opportunity to enjoy a lighted sensory table. They will be able to trace letters and numbers into the screens. They will be able to draw shapes and write simple sight words as well. The stamps will help with students who have writing difficulties. And, the writing boards will help students practice letters, numbers, their names, and shapes. The health/safety kit will help teach them community safety/community signs and hygiene routines that they will need for their everyday lives.
My students learn best through manipulatives and hands-on activities.
They tend to pay attention better when they are involved in the learning in a variety of ways (not just paper and pencil). My students have academic and physical challenges so anytime they can learn through manipulatives, sensory items, and hands-on, it leads to better connection to learning.
