As a special education teacher, a day in my classroom is anything but "typical". Schedules are followed and plans are made, but every day brings it's own pleasant surprises, challenges, and outcomes.
Our school is made up of a diverse population, with hard-working, spirited individuals.
We have a welcoming learning environment and our students are accepting and loving toward each other, including my students with special needs. My students' disabilities vary from person to person and it is important to use technology in our classroom to enhance learning in the areas in which they struggle. All of my students are capable of learning, and the right tools and latest technology will offer the support they need to succeed in and out of the classroom!
My Project
My students will use the Ipad mini and Osmo to work on important daily and academic skills. Masterpiece, Words, Tangram, and Newton are apps that will provide an opportunity for them to work on core content areas and master IEP goals. Handwriting, reading, math, and science will be approached in a manner that provides the necessary adaptations needed to accommodate their individual needs. Learning will be FUN and provide an opportunity for each student to express their wants and needs through the use of technology. The Osmo will also be a useful OT tool and allow my students to work on fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
The Osmo and Ipad will drastically make a difference in my classroom.
In addition to providing them with learning opportunities, they will be using technology in a way that will help them outside of the classroom, as well. In a world where everything is at the click of a button, my students also need to learn how to navigate the web, use a search engine, and function in a society that is computer-oriented.
