Eleven incredibly diverse students fill my classroom each day. These fourth and fifth graders are all students who have a diagnosed disability that negatively impacts their ability to learn the same way other students do.
Each day is an adventure and is different from the day before and after it.
We never know what the day will hold, but having an organized and welcoming classroom always makes the days a little easier on everyone.
Filling sensory needs through seating options is a great way to help students stay on task and complete work.
My Project
My students will be able to better access classroom materials and supplies using the organizational tools. Staying organized can be a difficult skill to learn. Having the right materials will make it easier!
They will also be able to choose flexible seating in order to complete work and silently read in a comfortable area.
They are really motivated by the rocking chairs and stools we have, so I want to increase their seating options! They are much more likely to continue working, complete work, and silently read when they get the option to sit somewhere other than their desk. Flexible seating also helps us learn about taking turns and being kind to one another through sharing!
