My students need to be motivated and inspired, and no one does that better in math than Marilyn Burns. This set of nonfiction books is designed to help do that.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Not everyone loves math the way I do - including some of my students. Help me encourage and inspire them with this great set of books.
Many of our students come from homes where their parents did not finish high school.
This limits the parents' ability to help a child be inspired and motivated in critical areas like math.
Students are lacking in experiences and background knowledge to help them be successful. When we cannot give the child the actual experience, the next best thing is to provide an experience through a book.
My Project
Marilyn Burns is one of the most well known and influential people in the world of teaching mathematics. She has compiled a set of 13 nonfiction books and a teachers guide with outstanding lessons designed to help motivate and inspire students to use critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Not all students enjoy math, but if you can find something they do enjoy, and then connect math to that thing, you can motivate them to want to learn.
Books have an amazing ability to provide that connection. Please join me in motivating students to learn math!
