My students need 4 sets of books including "Because of Winn-Dixie" and "Horrible Harry Moves up to the Third Grade" for an exposure to a variety of literature to foster a love of reading.
Turn the pages of your imagination -- READ! As a teacher of young children, I have the opportunity to instill a love of reading that will last a life time.
I teach a diverse group of third grade students in an inclusion classroom setting.
Meeting the needs of my students can be difficult without a variety of reading material. My children are eager to learn and have expressed an interest in books outside of the regular reading curriculum our school system provides. Their desire for more books in the classroom has become an important step in developing a love of reading and making books an integral part of my students' lives.
My Project
The books that I have chosen will provide my students with a variety of reading choices. Reading for pleasure is positively linked with literacy-related benefits: reading attainment and writing ability; comprehension and grammar; enhanced vocabulary; positive reading attitudes; greater self-confidence as a reader; and pleasure reading in later life. Encouraging reading choices are important steps in helping children develop a sense of ownership and independence, which can lead to increased motivation, effort, and learning.
Kids who are exposed to reading are much more likely to choose books over video games, television, and other forms of entertainment as they grow older.
Your donations to our classroom will help my students explore the world of literature and develop a love of reading beyond the classroom.
