Learning Through Listening

My Students

I have a large group of busy, hardworking, energetic students. They enjoy working in groups but love most the time they get to spend on their computers.

1st grade is a year where a lot of growing takes place and students really transform into learners.

I look for my students to become so much more independent by the end of 1st grade than when they began, which isn't always easy. It takes learning a lot of patience and hard work, but my students are up for the task!

My Project

Many students don't come to my classroom with headphones or if they do, they break. We use headphones to explore the world of reading through online books, we work on individual skills through IXL and other resources, and our reading/math curriculum has a lot of good online features that involve sound.

All of these things become difficult when we don't have headphones to use.

Headphones would help allow my class to successfully use their chrome books. With 26 students in my classroom it is hard to concentrate when everyone's computers are reading aloud different things, making the learning environment difficult. Being able to have extra headphones in my classroom would make these opportunities so much more successful.
