Help me give my students a CD player and headphones to create a listening center.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are a bunch of bright and energetic young people who truly enjoy learning. My school is a Title I campus located in the Third Ward area of Houston where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. So many of my students lack the basic necessities such as clean uniforms and supplies needed to be productive individuals.
Even after the affects of Hurricane Harvey, my students still manage to come to school excited and eager to learn every day.
Despite the many challenges they face, I am encouraged to help my students increase their love for reading while also having my students participate in creative and meaningful learning experiences. Many of my students are reading below grade level, and each and everyday I am looking for new ways to boost their reading skills. My goal for all of my students is to help them see that with hard work, determination, and a love for learning, they can achieve anything they set their mind to!
We currently do not have a listening center in our classroom. Having a listening center will give my students a fun and engaging way to practice their independent reading skills. My students will be able to use the station independently or in groups. This will give my students an avenue to practice shared reading and engaging in dialogue about what they have read. With your help, we will get new headphones that the students will be able to use independently. This way they will have more exposure to books and literacy and it will help them grow into better readers.
This listening station will help my students blossom into little readers as well as will help them become engaged and excited when they listen to books on CD!
The students will be able to comfortably listen to books on CD and build their literacy skills. We are also in need of a reliable CD player to use in the listening station so that more than one student would be able to enjoy listening to a story. Please help me get these much needed items into our classroom!
