My students need supplies for both light and water exploration. For the next two months we will explore these two science based themes, but we need the manipulatives to do that successfully.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Almost every year I have at least six non-English speaking students and two nonverbal students. My children are typical energetic and fun loving four year olds, who enjoy learning through play.
We have a variety of cultures, languages and backgrounds in our Pre K class and we all learn from each other.
Our neighborhood is comprised of hard working immigrant families and our children often come to us from a day care situation. We are a Title I school and all of our students receive free meals, but do they have basic supplies like folders and glue?
My Project
This year we are focusing on science based themes in our PreK, but we need materials to do that successfully.
Light and Water are our next two themes, and the children will learn through play and exploration of various materials.
I turned our sand table into a light table and now I need manipulatives to use on that table. Next month we will focus on Water and I plan on using bubbles to help explore that theme.
The children love to do simple science experiments and this type of learning is not usually something they are exposed to at home.
