This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We are in the South Bronx, where most of our families are immigrants from South America, the Caribbean Islands, and Africa. Many of our students are first-generation children straddling both worlds, their parents and their world.

We are a melting pot of creativity.

Our students strive to be the best, and they are up for the challenge. You hear that students can learn even in the worst of times. A good example of this is COVID-19 where our students learned while online. It was a hard challenge but the majority of them succeeded.

My Project

I teach a self-contained class of students with special needs. Surviving this pandemic has been especially challenging for them. They are returning to the classroom after a year of remote learning. Sitting at their desks and focusing on the lesson is difficult for those who are easily distracted.

My students will learn valuable life skills through playing games such as Mancala, Throw Throw Burrito by Exploding Kittens, and Exploding Kittens,.

They will learn to work cooperatively to achieve common goals as well as learn to play competitively while maintaining grace and good sportsmanship during wins and loses.
