This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Reading is a fundamental skill not just for school, but for life as well.
All students that I work with are at least 1 year behind in reading and math.
These students come from various backgrounds and home environments. Many have had some type of trauma in their lives. They all learn differently and therefore need the tools to help them be successful.
Students attend an urban, charter school, where most students are free and reduced lunch. Some have limited access to technology at home, as well as to reading materials at home.
My Project
Every student learns differently, and it is important that they each have the chance to succeed. For many, it is helpful to learn through playing games.
Board games can help students learn in an interactive and engaging fashion while having fun.
In a world of technology, it is often helpful for students to have the opportunity to learn through peer interaction. These games will help support student learning by allowing critical skills to be both taught and reviewed through play.
Students will play these games with partners or as a small group during math and reading after having worked with the teacher on the skill. By doing this the concept taught will be reinforced in a fun and engaging manner.
