I have a class of 17 very creative, happy and inquisitive learners. They work well in teams to establish a sense of accomplishment and become excited when they have created something unique.
Students were taught at the beginning of the year that they are mathematicians; cooperating with one another, asking questions, learning from their mistakes and preserving.
It is exciting when you see the students applying these skills throughout their day in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies!
My Project
Our classroom needs STEM materials like PicassoTiles and construction blocks that will encourage learning through exploration.
These materials will provide students with an engaging environment that fosters creativity, teamwork, and problem solving abilities.
Students will create a plan to build a structure, then execute the plan. Number sense will be established by counting and writing the number of materials used. Students will then describe their structure or create a fiction story about the use of the structure. Students can also mimic creating historical monuments from around the world (Empire State Building).
The sensory table builds students' fine motor skills and activates a sense of calmness.
