My Students

I teach a wonderful class of 1st graders who are excited to learn. In our classroom, we are working on developing a growth mindset by using such phrases as “I won’t quit but I will keep practicing” or “it’s ok to make mistakes because that is how I learn.” We have a wide range of learners starting with early readers to advanced readers. Each student is special and unique but one thing that is the same is they all want to learn. They are excited to practice reading both on computers and out of grade appropriate books.

My Project

My students need more time listening to books in a comfortable area as well as learning while being comfortable but not too close to the other students. Children can focus better when they are happy. They love learning through computers but need headsets that provide good sound and a lot of privacy.

Children learn best by doing!

Using manipulatives particularly in math helps them to understand and be successful. They also need lots of modeling in writing which I can do for them easily on a paper that looks like the one they are using. Writing is difficult for first graders and is made easier through lots of practice with good writing prompts.
