Help me give my students the supplies they need to make learning fun! Most of what I've requested are supplies that are used every day. The storage cart is so I have a place to house their supplies.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students do not have many experiences beyond their own neighborhoods. Many of them come from impoverished families and lack the funds to purchase basic school supplies much less extra supplies for art or projects. That being said, they are the same as any other children. They are loving, inquisitive, and thrive on adventure.
Their classroom teachers tell me that they are excited to come to my class each and every day.
Because I teach cultural arts, I see every child in our school. They want to learn, and my job is to make it fun and interesting for them.
My Project
Teaching cultural arts, I see about 150 students everyday. Each day is something different. Some days we are using pencils and paper to learn how to write paragraphs, lower grades use fine motor skills and state standards as they cut and glue sight words or math facts.
When there is a holiday we take a week and learn about it through reading, crafts, color sheets, anything I can find that will entice the students.
During the month of December we have been learning about Christmas Around the World by watching videos of various countries, and using construction paper to make lanterns, paper chains, and Christmas cards. These are used as decorations in various countries. We then shared the Christmas cards with a local nursing home.
If I am able to get pencils, glue, construction paper, tape, and other materials I will be able to continue to do more projects that make learning fun. Thank you in advance!
