Help me give my students the opportunities to foster their creativity through play. My students love chances to express their creativity and magnetic tiles, playdoh, and of course Legos allows them to do that!
Hello! We are a second grade class made up of 25 unique students. Our school is located in the Hells Kitchen, NYC. My students know that they can always count on school being that constant in their lives.
We are super eager learners.
They are very eager readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians. They rip the library apart on a daily basis as they try and locate their next reading adventure. They are always excited to get their ideas down on paper regardless if its writing, social studies, or math. There are future scientists in this classroom who will be very successful dealing with electricity or out in the wilderness identify different animal adaptations. What can I say? We are great!
My Project
On Fridays, my class has one period of choice time. During this time, my students are able to choose activities that they want to do. This is one time during the week that I am able to build relationships with my students because there is no stress of academic success on them. Throughout choice time, I want my students to be engaged in a fun activity as they are able to work with their peers and build personal relationships.
My students love the opportunity to showcase their creativity.
Most of my students like to build things with snap cubes or create designs using pattern blocks. Another popular choice is free-drawing or coloring. I want to give my students the chances to explore their creative side through different avenues.
The playdoh will be available for students to build and create their favorite objects. The magnetic tiles allows students to create buildings and towns as they put the pieces together. Finally, the Legos will allow my students the opportunities to build anything their mind can think of. As fun as all of these activities seem to be, they are all giving second graders opportunities to learn life skills as they are interacting and learning with people their own age.
