My students are creative, energetic, and enjoy participating in their educational programs. They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! The students range In ability and age.
The students in my classroom are in need of hands on activities during the extended school year program this summer.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although their method of learning is not typical of students. In the past we have been able to take field trips and bring people into the program to interact with the students. Under the current situation that is no longer an option. I believe this is a project that can enrich the summer educational program. I consider myself lucky to be able to work with this amazing group of students every summmer.
My Project
I have the privilege of working with a group of students during our extended school year program that will run for six weeks this summer. I am striving to make the summer curriculum interactive while focusing on writing and math. The purchase of these kits will give all the students this hands on activity.
We will write direction using both words and through pictures, create the physical project, and design them using art materials.
Students will measure all the pieces and create scale drawings to match their written directions. Every student will have the opportunity to choose their project. The amount of assistance will depend on the age and fine motor skills of each student. Some will require hand over hand assistance for building of the project. After each project is created the students will again write by creating a story that includes their project. When all is done they will have a project to take home with them with an opportunity to practice telling their family about the experience. The communication aspect is a great way to help students talk about what they work on during extended school year. I am hopeful to give all 40 of the students an opportunity to experience a hands on activity they can be proud of.
