My students need a variety of art supplies including paints, construction paper, paintbrushes and more to use during language arts, math, science, and social studies.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember when your elementary school teacher would get out the art supplies during class? I want to give my first graders that joy during the school year.
I teach first grade in the inner-city.
My students often struggle with a variety of academic and behavioral issues. However my busy kids all have something in common. They love to create things! While we do have construction paper, crayons, and markers, we would like more creative tools to help our busy babies be more engaged in learning.
My Project
These supplies will be used by several first grade classrooms to provide a variety of opportunities to use art in science, social studies, math, and language arts/writing.
Imagine learning to use describing words by making a life-size cutout of yourself. You can decorate yourself using construction paper, markers, crayons, paint, glitter, and the list goes on. In the middle of the cutout you write wonderful words to describe YOU!
Imagine learning about George Washington. How much fun would it be to make George Washington by tracing your hands and feet on construction paper. Then making a face on a paper plate which is glued onto a large sheet of construction paper. We fold paper and attach our hands and feet to make his arms and legs. Finally cotton balls are used to make his hair.
Imagine, in this day of state standards and accountability, how much FUN we can have learning!
Thanks to your generosity first grade can be a fun, engaging, and creative place to be.
