Students at my school love reading interesting texts that inspire and engage them. My wonderful students need access to novels in which they can relate to and help teach them about the world around them. By providing my kids with texts they are interested in, it makes it easier to focus on digging deeper into the text and to apply themes to real world problems so that we can come up with solutions. By providing my students with engaging novels, it will help foster a love of reading and further exploration to other novels.
My Project
The story “Milkweed” is about a young boy that grew up and lived during the Holocaust. This subject is a difficult one to teach, but by reading about this historical event, this story approaches it in a appropriate way, while still providing enough context which clearly explains the atrocities of this horrific time. Students will have their own copy, as opposed to digital versions, in which they can take Home to read, which will help foster independent reading habits. As middle school students, I strive to prepare my students for the next steps of their academic careers as they leave into high school.
