Learning Their Way: Making Science Interesting and Relevant

My students need to read things that interest them and help them learn. Your donations will help my students explore different topics in our science curriculum using the SuperScience magazines.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to sit and listen to your teacher talk about something you didn't care about or understand? My students have a desire to acquire information on their own, but don't always have the materials. These magazines will help students develop skills and learn their way.

My students are curious, but bored.

They want to learn and desire information, but do not learn by being told information. They are better at learning when they do and ask on their own. They need the tools to inquire about information and topics and make topics interest them.

My Project

We are asking you to donate to purchase Scholastic Science Magazine for each class. Students will be able to use these to inquire about their interests in science and develop skills that are necessary for their future. We will use this publication to understand science in terms that are interesting and relative to the students. We will also use these to help relate science to other topics, specifically Social Studies. Students will be able to develop their knowledge about the world, ask questions, and gain important skills.

Many students in inner-city schools have poor math and science skills.

Giving students as much access to scientific information will help them in their future endeavors. Even if students do not want to go into a job field that requires science, building a fundamental structure of skills now, for students to use to pass high school and college classes, is imperative. You support will help my students create those building blocks that they need to be successful.
