Learning the Value of Money in an Autistic Support Classroom

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom has a wide range of students on the Autism Spectrum. I focus on my students' abilities, rather than their disabilities. Autism is an everyday challenge for my students, but when given the correct learning environment I feel that they can be very successful.
They also live in a high poverty area in our high, which makes my classroom even more unique, because they may not always have every ting they have and need at home.
Creating a safe and welcoming learning environment is most beneficial for my students. They are eager to learn! We stay busy and work so hard!
We have a high diversity of learners who often times need some sort of tool to be more successful. Despite challenges at home and in the community, my students are enthusiastic, inquisitive, and thoughtful. In my classroom, we work with our students to work hard daily to improve their communication, behavior and academic skills.
My Project
My students are working on learning the value of money. They are also learning how to earn money in order to buy what they want and need. Our classroom is working on having our teachers pretend to purchase items from our snack cart that they are able to have. We are not making money, but rather giving the items to our teachers to also include a kindness lesson with learning about money.
Working with students who have special needs, I need to think outside of the box to create a fun way for them to learn this life skill that they will need.
I am requesting a cart and baskets to deliver the food to the different classrooms. We need a variety of snacks for the teachers to "purchase" so that we are able to add different values of items.
