My students need a variety of reading games to enhance their language vocabulary skills and the life-long skill of comprehension in reading an informational and literature text.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school serves K-5 who come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 90% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is one of the roughest in Montgomery, AL ranging from shootings, fights, starvation, and a very high percentage of absences each year. Our students range from English and 40% Spanish learners. With our students coming in every day with barely anything and the same clothes worn, we are also one of the failing schools in our system. Our students are so technologically advanced but with the lack of technology that we have in our schools causes a halt with both teachers and students.
My Project
My students need a variety of games (Pirate Island and Informational Text Game) to enhance their vocabulary skills in their everyday youth of language. In using these games, my student will require a solid foundation of various ways to attack words that they don’t understand and be able to engage in comprehension games to make the love of reading fun and exciting. I want to assist my students in the joy fullness of reading and allowing my student to use hands on learning in order to improve their own self reflection on learning while becoming leaders with their peers at the same time. This will also help my students my letting their imagination expand into deeper knowledge of cognitive thinking.
