Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a spirited class of 44 3rd graders! They are all Latinos who live and go to school in downtown Minneapolis, MN. Over 98% of our school qualifies for free and reduced-price lunch. These bilingual scholars are the future we need. They work hard each and every day to make the world better. These special students fight for our environment and are passionate to share their knowledge. These empathetic, sensitive learners are deserving of any donations.
During this time of distance learning, my students get a weekly home bag with some supplemental learning materials.
We also use video lessons and small group video sessions when possible. Many of my kids are visual learners and many do not have access to technology or the internet. They need material to provide additional support because I can't be there to work with them one on one.
A great education is important for a successful future. Having the right materials to supplement our curriculum will lead to a learning environment that encourages creativity. Imagination is crucial for young learners.
My Project
Each week I send home a bag to students with some learning materials. I'm looking for materials to help my scholars build their skills in phonics and word building along with sight words. I want to be able to use these material to provide additional support because I can't be there to work with them one on one.
These manipulative will help my students work as I guide them through video lessons and video sessions in small groups when possible.
Students who enjoy learning activities often retain the content knowledge on a deeper level. When a concept is learned with a practical application where students see how it is used in everyday life and they know how and why they will use it they want to learn it.
