Learning the German Language through Play
My students need an iPad to learn German through games.
Technology is a huge part of our students' world. Information has to be served fast and in a fun way. Learning German can be challenging, but the language learning applications on an iPad would give the students a chance to play and learn at the same time!
My 600 students, age ranged 10-12, come from a high poverty community.
They long to see and feel and try and learn what all technology can offer them at school since they might not have the equipment at home. The foreign language applications are educational games that encourages students to compete against each other in an entertaining way.
There are around 200 German companies in our state. My students are the next generation hired by these companies. German language skills will benefit them greatly. However, at the age of 10-12, my students have a hard time seeing that far in the future. They want the German language learning to be a fun experience - something that an iPad can offer.
I am hoping that using the educational applications on the iPad would be so much fun that the students would want to continue playing outside the classroom, too.
That would be a dream come true to a German teacher!
