Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title 1 school which means 90% or more students are on free or reduced lunch. We are located in an area of Florida where the population is low income and mostly immigrants.
The students in my class are the lowest 25th percentile of the school.
There are 9 retainees in my class meaning this is their second time completing Third Grade. We also have 7ESE/Special Education students.
Regardless of their struggles at home and the difficulties they have in school, my students still come to school eager to learn and with a smile on their faces. They try their best, work really hard, and make me proud every day.
My Project
3rd grade is a very important year in a child’s elementary education. There are several vital components to my students’ success. Hard work, practice, teacher support, and studying are just a few things students need. One of the most important components in student success is reading ability.
My students need materials and supplies to help them learn the English Language.
Due to the Hurricane Maria disaster, more students have joined my classroom and they do not know the English language. These students are trying to cope with a new school, new environment as well as a new language. My students need phonics workbooks, early readers, and basic supplies such as pencils and pens. These materials would not only allow my students to have consumable workbooks to use in the classroom during instructional time, but will also allow me to give the students basic supplies to take home. Reading skills are essential in our learning world today, it is devastating to many students that because of a natural disaster they are not able to fulfill their educational responsibilities out of the classroom. Your donation will allow my students to feel confident and lift a burden off their shoulders.
