Learning the Circulatory System By Directly Analyzing Our Blood!
Help me give my students the opportunity to not only learn about how antibodies and antigens work but also their own blood type that they will be able to reference for the rest of their lives.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Honors Anatomy and Physiology is a senior course that students are excited to take which helps determine if their interest medical field will be continued. Any student can take the course even though it is Honors, so students that generally may not take advanced courses now have the opportunity to push themselves and take a rigorous course. Students love the idea of the course because they hear about the exciting aspects such as cadaver viewings at local colleges, multiple organ dissections, pig dissections, and field trips often to blood banks and other medical areas. Once in the course students understand its rigor, however, the supplementation of fun activities helps the students achieve great success even when an Honors class seemed out of reach.
Students in Honors Anatomy and Physiology are hardworking and a unique blend of individuals with varying academic success, however, they all have a common interest in how their body works which makes them a cohesive and exciting group to teach.
These students have the most questions and overall interest in the course topic out of any classes I have ever taught. Each section I teach brings excitement to the day and to the topic being covered.
My Project
When students learn the circulatory system, they usually see visuals through their text or videos online. These are great but students have been lacking the hands on experience they can get by creating their own circulatory system and by learning about their own blood typing. The circulatory system is beyond amazing and previous years has lacked the excitement in the details that I wish I provided. Using and creating their own life-like circulatory system make give students a deeper understanding of how amazing our bodies are.
Previously, students used synthetic blood to understand antigens and antibodies, but now that my kits are all out I thought it would be more meaningful if students had the opportunity to test their own blood type like they would in a real lab.
This would bring out more authentic learning and make the experience a memorable one.
