My students in S.E. in Houston, Texas are "What Excellence Looks Like". The 80 students in my classroom qualify for free/reduced lunch and 50% are English Language Learners. The goal at our school is to prepare our students to compete and succeed in the 21st century. Many of the students do not have access to computers, internet and other necessary technology in their homes. Despite some of their disadvantages, students at S.E. performed at the highest levels on the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) assessment last year. However, this school year has been a unique one because our scholars experience one of the worst horrific floods caused by Hurricane Harvey. Many of our scholars were displaced losing everything they owned. With these obstacles and challenges, our Eagles come to school everyday ready learn and take on the world. I am hoping to hear from some generous donors help us rebuild our school. We are as Resilient as our World Series Houston Astros and continue to work hard to be the best scholars we can be.
The painted lady butterflies, bessbugs, hissing cockroaches, and beetles will allow the students in my classroom hands-on experiences with the life cycles of different insects and their roles in different environments. These insects will allow the students to experience living organisms in an up close way. Many children look at insects as something that is bothersome and scary.
These living organisms will allow my students to get up close and personal with insect life cycles by observing and experimenting with each of the different organisms.
Students will gain an appreciation of the roles of insects in different environments and ecosystems.
