I am excited to start this project. We have created a class for students ranging in age from 18 -22 that still need assistance with independent living. This program will teach daily living skills in and out of the classroom. We will be working on independent living skills such as grooming, cooking, cleaning, setting tables, sorting etc. We also work on developing job skills such as filling out application, searching for jobs, and learning about technology.
This is a start up program that will grow into something wonderful but we need a little help to get started!
Our students have already fulfilled their academic credits but still need assistance in daily living, skills for adult living, and work base learning skills. We will need some things to help us get started!
My Project
Having a set of iPads will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. One way they will be used is within a job center zone within the classroom. Students can look up job related information. Another way they will be used is by providing a way for students to learn the job application process and fill out personal information. Our students could also take pictures of their different job preferences and interests and share them with their parents and classmates. They could collaborate on group findings by sharing through the cloud. I could download apps for various job skills as well as keeping them up to date on their literacy and math skills, which is still important.
My project will make a difference in the lives of my students both in and out of the classroom.
Our classrooms are not yet at the level technologically to meet the needs of all our learners. This grant will assist to close that gap and provide the technology needed in the special education classroom.
