My Students

My school is in the heart of the city. I think it is the best location ever for a school. We are within walking distance of many landmarks and regularly take walking field trips. The school is an International Baccalaureate, K-8, public school program. If you visited, you would find a building filled with amazing students and teachers that care deeply about learning. The students are curious and are filled with questions. They willingly research to find answers and are always excited to share new-found knowledge with their peers. Students being in charge of conversations is the norm!

My Project

Our school uses literature and concepts to drive our curriculum. It is important to make constant connections to our world in the way a student would understand. So, we use The City of Ember to study a different kind of society. This society has been forced underground due to environmental changes (part of another unit we study) and therefore has to find creative ways to continue to live.

Students will use this novel to analyze choices made by those in power and how or if these choices really help the community.
