Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am blessed to work with a group of students who are eager to learn, gain knowledge, and work hard to achieve their goals! Currently, I support 20 students in the general education classroom who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. They receive support for social skills instruction, behavior, and communication.
Even though they face struggles with anxiety, emotions, self-regulation, and communication, my students come to school every day ready to tackle the day's obstacles and eager to learn and do better than the day before.
My Project
My students struggle with regulating their emotions and remaining in a calm neutral state of mind for learning! Can you imagine struggling to communicate your basic wants and needs effectively to others throughout your daily routine? It can be so frustrating for everyone when you can’t get your basic needs met!
Please help me provide my students with tools to support mindfulness and sensory input so that they can regulate their emotions!
The materials that I am asking for are desperately needed in my classroom so that I can effectively teach these crucial skills to my students. Once we are able to identify sensory tools that they find calming, we can help parents to utilize similar items at home.
