This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Dr. Seuss once said "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." We believe that there is this statement applies no matter how old the reader is. Our students are in need of a good book so that they will know the love of reading.
Our students attend a low income, high poverty school in central Illinois.
Our classrooms are near max capacity and we have a difficult time finding enough articles for all our students that are of interest to them. Many students are reading below grade level and receive a reading intervention.
My Project
Reading is the basis of all aspects of life. Students must be able to learn to enjoy reading. Our students are in need of good fiction and non fiction books so that they can develop the love of reading. By selecting this project, you will be helping expand each students' at home library with a high interest book. These books will be able to be enjoyed by the students' families as well as siblings. The love of learning will be able to be shared for years to come.
This project is important because our students are often times not exposed to books and do not have a love for reading.
We are hopeful that by introducing our students to a high interest book we can establish a love of reading all while incorporating the fictional piece into Common Core.
