Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
You are not a morning person, and it's hard for you to be friendly early in the day. A teacher notices you enter the school, smiles at you and says, "Good morning!" Be friendly and greet the teacher.
My students lack social skills and must be taught the steps to otherwise simple every day skills you and I take for granted.
When my students with behavior disorders and autism are able to practice social skills in a safe environment, take pride in their role-play and create a video to be viewed and critiqued by themselves, they learn how to become social citizens of not only our school, but our community as well.
Many of them are being raised in single parent, foster, or grandparent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. They seek attention in negative ways by behaving inappropriately. By giving them positive social skills, their behaviors will shift in healthier, more positive directions.
My Project
I am requesting a Chromebook. I want students to access social skills apps each day as part of our social skills learning. Role plays are a great way for my students to learn and practice correct social skills. They will have the opportunity to access apps, view videos and create role plays for the class to participate in.
The Chromebook will help my students become more confident in social situations in our school, community and every day life.
My students need a Chromebook to access the technology to do research for class projects, Nearpod lessons and assignments, writing papers, creating spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations for social skills.
