Learning Social Studies Through AR & VR!

My students need 4 Apple iPod touch devices to utilize the Google Expeditions app in class. Durable cases are also needed to protect these devices from accidental drops.

My Students

My middle school is located in a suburb of Charleston, SC, and has approximately 801 students. In one 7th grade pod, we have approximately 128 students.

Education is changing and technology is a critical part of the classroom in our growing world.

I want my students to have every opportunity available to succeed in school through the integration of technology. At my school, we are lucky enough to have Chromebooks which allow me to create a personalized or blending learning atmosphere.

My Project

Augmented reality and virtual reality are two new ways that students can experience far away places or places from history without an expensive (or impossible) field trip. Through the Google Expeditions and Cardboard app, students will be able to use the Apple iPod devices to have unique experiences in their social studies class.

Such experiences include exploring a trench in WWI, virtually visiting the ruins of the ancient Mayans and Aztecs, being able to see inventions of the industrial revolution using augmented reality, or experience the lavish palace of Versailles.

Because these devices will be carried around, heavy duty cases are a must to protect from any accidental drops. I chose these cases because they also had a built in screen protector to prevent scratches which could impair the AR or VR experience.
