My students are from a small East Texas community. Our Title I school serves students in grades 1 -5. I want to give them the best start possible to become problem solvers who are successful and improve the world around us.
They are explorers, dreamers, and thinkers.
Most of all they are curious. Many of these students come to school having had very little experience with science and art. By providing opportunities to combine science with art we activate their minds to develop imaginative, yet rational thinking.
Students enjoy science and art. The combination results in representations of real science that help students take what may have been abstract to them and turn it into something they can understand. One of the big projects we will do is recreate the water cycle where students use actual places in the world to illustrate/model the process. A second project that we do is the "life cycle" of a sedimentary rock. Students make their own sedimentary rock and write a story to tell how the rock morphs throughout it's "life cycle."
Help me give my students the opportunity to use creativity and self expression to create beautiful science inspired art.
The combination of writing, art and science make learning about the world fun.
