Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing! They are a diverse group who come to school each day wanting to experience new things and grow. My students quickly learn that we can make excuses or we can make it happen. What makes my students so thoroughly fabulous is how consistently they choose to make it happen despite the obvious challenges they may face.
My school is a Title I school in Kissimmee, Florida with a wide range of diversity and high poverty.
Still, these students always impress visitors, and their very own teacher, with their tenacity and desire to grow and learn more no matter their educational background. There will always be issues in Title I schools and we will always work to overcome the obstacles. DonorsChoose.org is a great way for us to receive the help we need in order to make learning fun for our students.
My Project
My district is requiring that students do not touch items other students have touched. This means that communal supply areas are not allowed. My district is recommending learning bundles or bags where students can keep their own whiteboard, marker, erasers, and pencils in order to avoid them from touching someone else's belongings and cross-contaminating.
With these supplies, students will have their own whiteboards, which can also function as clipboards, their own erasers, magnetic post-it notes, pencils, and plastic folders to keep them in.
These materials will keep learning engaging while keeping everyone safe because they are only touching their own items. They will be easy to use and nearby at all times. As an example, in writing when students need to add their own ideas to the essay we are writing as a class, they could write it on their magnetic post-it, I could collect it and put them on the board and we could sort ideas for writing as a group. The whiteboard and clipboard would be used daily as students can write their answers down and reveal in a whole group lesson, or if they needed to, take notes they have the clipboard to use.
This year will be tough, but these supplies will help keep everyone safe and keep the focus on learning.
