I teach science and social studies to third graders at a rural, Title I school. I also teach a technology class to a small group of fourth graders.
My students are full of energy and creativity, and they are eager to face both the challenges and advantages that school provides them.
I try to provide my students with as many hands-on activities as possible so they can gain authentic first-hand knowledge. I want the skills they learn to stick with them and I know they won't if they spend all day filling out worksheets. My kids are awesome and they're capable of creating great things!
My Project
My students need an additional refurbished iPad and an Osmo iPad Base so more students can benefit from this amazing technology. Osmo allows my students to practice their spelling, math, engineering and creative skills. Our classroom already has one Osmo and iPad set, but with 20 students in a class, it leaves many students clamoring to get a chance to use it.
Whenever I pull Osmo out, my students' eyes light up.
They are excited to play spelling games, not realizing that they're learning as they play. They are challenged by coding activities that keep them engaged until it's time to move to a different activity. They practice mapping and drawing, creating lasting muscle memory that will transfer to their testing activities. Osmo has made learning exciting and I'd love for more of my students to be able to take advantage of it.
