Learning Outdoors is Fun and Healthy, and Increases School Performance!

Help me give my students have an outdoor classroom with wooden benches and portable chairs. The portable chairs will allow flexibility in choosing location and group size, while reducing noise and crowding inside the classroom.

My Students

Our double-sized classrooms are full of creative and energetic students. We love co-teaching at our school, but sometimes we need more flexible classroom options for small group and differentiated instruction.

Flexible outdoor seating will open up many opportunities for teachers to take students outdoors for learning.

Taking groups outdoors for reading and discussion groups will allow more flexible use of our indoor spaces. Students thrive when learning outside. Research has shown an increased level of focus even hours after having an outdoor classroom experience.

My Project

Research has documented many benefits of outdoor education, including increased standardized test scores, improved attitude about school, improved in-school behavior, and improved attendance.

Learning outdoors increases students’ physical, mental and social health and decreases the symptoms of ADHD.

Outdoor learning and access to nature also decrease stress levels of students and teachers. Most importantly, spending time outside strengthens students' connection to nature, helping to develop stronger environmental awareness and civic behavior.

With outdoor benches and portable chairs, multiple teachers will be able to take small groups outside, offering outdoor education while relieving noise and crowding in their classrooms for co-teaching.
