My group loves reading books. We like to fully engross ourselves and get into the lives or our characters. A good book can be a way to live out others circumstances without ever leaving the classroom.
My students are from a small town that is completely surrounded by a big city.
Most of our students are from low income families. Our parents are involved and want what is best for their children. They sacrifice to make sure they have their needs met and try to provide their wants when possible.
My Project
We will use these books to delve into the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family on the prairie. I have lots of activities to go along with this book such as making corn dodgers using measurement for math. This is a story the students always love to read. It takes them into the life of a family that is from a different time but still like themselves in many ways. We will take a few weeks to read and really learn about and from the Ingalls family.
Donations to this project will assure that my students will be able to read a prize winning book by a celebrated author.
It will teach them good character traits and they will see (through the example of Nellie Olsen) that being a bully does not pay off. The book is very well written and will help my students with literacy as well as many other subject areas.
