The students in my classroom have diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, but they all share a similar desire to learn through discovery and experiences. At our STEAM school, children are inspired by a hands-on approach to education.
Our second-grade classroom is filled with energetic, inquisitive children.
Most families in my classroom have identified that movement and engagement are among their child's primary needs for being academically successful. Recess alone does not provide my students enough time to move throughout the day. Instead, my students need seating options that will enhance their ability to learn and focus in motion.
My Project
My students need access to seating options which provide support, yet allow them to be mobile. Yoga ball chairs will make it possible for students to rotate and bounce, while stools will give students the option to stand, lean, or sit.
We value seating options that allow our class to easily communicate and collaborate in motion.
I believe that flexible seating options are an investment in my students. As seven and eight-year-olds, they have an innate desire to learn through collaboration and movement. When students are given the option to choose a seat which empowers this type of learning, they are more likely to focus and succeed.
I have seen firsthand the positive effect that flexible seating can have! My hope is that my students will receive physical and academic benefits from the flexible seating options provided in our classroom.
