Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are fun and energetic, and love authentic and hands-on experiences. This is the type of atmosphere that I strive to provide for my students every day. We love to dance and move and be hands-on with learning. My goal is that I will be able to provide each of my students with a meaningful and memorable experience in third grade. In order to do that, I need a classroom that has the materials my students need to learn.

My Project

I learned the benefits of teaching on a rug while I was a early childhood teacher. Having my rug to do mini lessons was so helpful because I could gather all of my kids in a close space and get their attention easily. Allowing them a safe and comfortable place to gather for lessons was also helpful because I could ensure that each student could easily see as I was giving instructions.

Having a rug where all of your students fit ensures that you are giving clear expectations to the kids about where they may sit, and where they may not sit during lessons.

Elementary students need these clear and consistent expectations and routines. When I moved from teaching early childhood to 3rd grade, I quickly realized that the rug I loved so much was simply just not large enough for my growing students! This new rug will be large enough to fit all of my kids.

Your donation will not only allow my class to have a classroom rug, but also another teacher in need in my school! Once I receive a rug that is a better fit for my students, I am excited to donate my current rug to another classroom in need! With your help, and the help of DonorsChoose, I hope to be able to provide my students with a rug that is a better fit!
