Have you ever entered another country and been expected to know their alphabet and numbers by sight? My students encounter this each year as newcomers to our country, language, and culture. They need as many hands on activities as possible to make learning real for them.
My entire Kindergarten class is made up of English Language Learners.
Many of them have just arrived to our country and have never been to school. Many of them have never spoken English and are expected to meet State Standards by the end of the school year. Most students are exposed to the English Language during school hours and need as much practice as possible learning the alphabet and numbers.
My Project
These resources will provide endless hours of alphabet recognition that will lead into basic reading skills. The numbers, patterns, addition and shape match up cards will provide hours of learning for students for years to come. The tactile cards help students recognize their letters and numbers by touch. These resources are more engaging for students and allow them to learn their letters and numbers without sitting and completing a worksheet.
This project is extremely important because it gives students an opportunity to learn the foundation of Reading and Math skills.
These resources are high quality that can be used for years and years with incoming classes. Without your help, these students will not have as many opportunities to learn their alphabet and numbers in an exciting way.
